"Is there a need to worry about Customs Compliance?”

Frequently  this question is asked of me.

Firstly, customs entries define the boundaries of a company’s import and export operation, both it's size and it's worth. How many customs entries were filed in the last year? Or the last month? Knowing this information means a company has identified all their trade import and export  routes and know precisely where their customs entries are being filed and by whom.

A company's import proceedure is put in place in to order to manage its import operations.

The customs entry, is  an official government document and is filed like a tax return, payment of duties, tax and fees all depend on the import documentation submitted to Revenue. If you are working with a Customs broker as the importer, they’ll typically fill this out for you.

Misidentified classifications or insufficient documentation can mean unnecessary delays while your goods sit in a bonded warehouse. Further more you will be hit with daily warehousing charges. In addition, depending on the sort of products  you have, you may have to deal with several government offices to clear your imports.

The Customs entry form lists information like:

· Country of origin

· Description of the goods

· Cost, insurance and freight (CIF) value or the goods

· Customs classification number, and  Approximate amount ofduties you expect to pay on the goods

“We leave that to the customs brokers.”

You may consider engaging a customs broker to expedite your exports &  imports through customs. By doing business across both national & international  borders it may more profitable than ever.
